Effort over talent – ALL DAY LONG!
I had this student here years ago and his name was Matthew but we all called him Matty P. Matty was a great student, not a great athlete, but a great student. Achieving every belt was a great effort for him but as he went up through the ranks and the challenges became more intense, his effort grew as well.
A parent this week made an off the cuff comment and said…
Ahh, effort over talent. Always.
The moment he said that, I thought of Matty and how true that is. Effort over talent ALL DAY LONG.
If you’re having a tough time learning or achieving something, be like Matty. Keep on putting in the effort, disregard how hard the challenge is and know that as long as you’re putting in the effort, you’ll eventually get the results you want.
Given that thought, this week’s message is…
Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard.
That saying sums up Matty PERFECTLY. It’s exactly why he did eventually achieve his Black Belt despite all the challenges he faced and why I’ll never forget him.
To your success,
Michael
