The importance of caring.

A funny thing happened to me in class once and it made me realize something really important.

A student was trying for their first stripe, they didn’t meet their physical requirements and so they didn’t receive their stripe. This doesn’t happen often, but it certainly happens.

Afterwards, we talked about some options they had, how they could improve to meet their goals and while we were talking I could tell that they were really upset. Totally understandable.

It can be frustrating and disappointing when we don’t meet our goals but over the next few weeks I started to see their training DECREASE, when really, it should have INCREASED.

This week’s message of the week is…

Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, it’s not going to get better. It’s NOT.

Every cause that’s ever been taken up. Every wrong that’s ever been challenged, was initially done by ONE person. One person cared enough to step up and try to fix what was wrong.

For the person that didn’t receive their stripe last week, that disappointment, that challenge, can only be tackled by them. If they decide to take on that task, eventually they’ll succeed. But, if they don’t care enough, if they don’t want it enough, then they’re never going to get better, they’re never going to earn their stripe and they’re never going to achieve their next goal.

They’ve chosen that outcome!

This week, take a look at something that frustrates you, bothers you, challenges you or just doesn’t sit right with you and face it. Step up, be the first to take some action and see how much you can make it better.

To your success,

Michael
