You gain strength, courage and confidence every time you look fear in the face. – Eleanor Rosevelt

When I was a kid, I was terrified of roller coasters.  It wasn’t until recently that I started to over come that fear and since then, I’ve had some great experiences with friends and family.  I wish I had faced my fears earlier because I’ve missed out on a lot of fun over the years.  On top of that, I’ve become a bit more courageous in trying new things.

One of the reasons that I love martial arts is because it forces you to face your fears.  Whether it’s performing a kata in front of people, learning a new movements or pushing yourself to perform at a higher level, when you’re training, you’re facing fears and slowly gaining courage and confidence.  It’s an amazing thing to see children and adults transform from shy, timid people into confident, courageous people that are able to stand up to their fears.

Unfortunately too many of us are directed by our fears and this affects our quality of life so this week, as you go through the week, I’m challenging you to look for something that you’re afraid of and take some steps towards facing it and when you start to do that, just watch how your confidence grows.
