Stop picking fights you can’t win!
I have some simple advice…stop picking fights you can’t win.
If you’re fighting a fight that can’t be won, you’re wasting time. You should be spending time on fights that you can win. One of the things that you quickly learn in martial arts is which fights you should or shouldn’t be fighting.
Think of it this way…
If you’re a short fighter, YOU’RE A SHORT FIGHTER! You can’t make yourself taller. Perhaps you have a couple of years ahead of you where you’ll grow, but what we know for sure is that you can’t make it happen faster. What we also know is that even though you’re a short fighter, you are going to have to fight people taller than you. Sorry, it’s got to happen. So, instead of wasting time, fighting, and worrying about people being taller than you, accept the fact and move on. Start figuring out a way to fight taller people!
You might have to become faster, stronger, smarter, have better hands, faster feet, etc. Whatever it is, you’ll only figure that out once you stop fighting a fight that you can’t win.
Too many of us are fighting fights that can’t be won. We’re complaining about our teachers, training partners, what we’re being tested on, and more. Instead of fighting those things, look for a fight that you can win. Go to class more often, work a bit harder, ask for help, find a new partner. Just STOP wasting time!
Stop picking fights you can’t win and start picking fights you can. It doesn’t matter what it is or how you do it, but the sooner you do that, the sooner you’ll make progress towards your goals and that’s what counts.
I look forward to seeing you on the mats,
PS. This reminds me of another post we did about EFFORT.
